Unlike school, you can create your own semester at university. However, it has proven useful to follow the official semester recommendation in TISS.
The number of courses (LVAs) per semester depends on how much time you want to invest and what prior knowledge you have. As a guideline: 1 ECTS credit corresponds to approximately 25 hours of work.
You are responsible for registering for LVAs and exams. It’s very simple: click on the LVA in TISS, then on “LVA Details”, “LVA Registration” and follow the instructions. For some LVAs, there is also a group registration that you should not forget.
Vorbesprechung Meetings
In the first unit, the so-called Vorbesprechung, you will learn everything important about the LVA: the exact procedure, the registration modalities and how to get a positive grade. Attendance is highly recommended!
LVAs of the First Semester
The following LVAs are recommended for the first semester. The first four are particularly important as they are part of the STEOP:
- VU Introduction to Programming 1 (5.5 ECTS)
- VU Mathematical Work for Computer Science and Business Informatics (2.0 ECTS)
- VU Orientation Computer Science and Business Informatics (1.0 ECTS)
- VO Basics of Business and Company Management (3.0 ECTS)
- VU Ways of Thinking in Business Informatics (4.0 ECTS)
- VU Cost and Performance Accounting (3.0 ECTS)
- VU Accounting (2.0 ECTS)
- VU Algebra and Discrete Mathematics for Computer Science and Business Informatics (9.0 ECTS)
You can find the links to the LVAs in TISS. The ECTS credits indicated are guidelines.
Beginners’ Day
In the winter semester, the Beginners’ Day takes place on October 1st. This day is part of the orientation LVA and includes the Beginners’ Welcome in the Audimax and the Beginners’ Trail, a tour through the institutes.
